Policy and research themes

Most Muslim lesbian, bisexual and trans women struggle to reconcile their sexual orientation or gender identity with their cultural or religious identities. This internal struggle can result in depression, self harm and even suicide. Coming out (or being found out) can result in:
-being rejected by family and friends
-intense pressure to get married, sometimes leading to forced marriage
-domestic violence
-homelessness
-losing custody of children and/or abduction of children

For Muslim lesbian, bisexual and trans asylum seekers and immigrants these experiences are often made more difficult by legal obstacles and language barriers.

This section is a list of research and other work mainly conducted by the Safra Project on a number of policy themes related to Muslim lesbian, bisexual and trans women. We have also included useful resources from other sources.
